What are/is Sentient Vessels?
Well, I mean - you're a sentient vessel and I am, too, so that's what the name refers to: we are sentient beings carrying around a lot of things - some that we have control over carrying and others that we cannot ever put down. We all have a lot to download but there's very little dedicated space to do that which isn't lost in the noise of social media or controlled by the literary elite.
At its most basic, Sentient Vessels is a response to that. It's a cosmi-digtial repository for human-generated creativity, disguised as an online literary zine.
At the time of launch, we are a one-person, bucket-list endeavor with a goal of putting out six issues. Maybe we'll have a themed issue or two? And please don't ask if issues will be monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly. It's far too early to tell anything like that (though bi-monthly sounds good at the outset).
The site is no frills, low bandwidth, built on a clean, free template. I'm trying to make it work for the vision I've had in mind for a long time. I am not a coder. I don't want to become a coder. I want to learn how to use this not-quite-wysiwyg-drag-and-drop-ish CMS that came with the $20 annual "pro" hosting plan my domain registrar was selling.
Sentient Vessels will feature poetry, micro-fiction of up to 500 words, a few pieces of original art, and possibly an interview in each issue. We are looking for work that's approachable, attainable, and somewhat literary. And the work needs to fit within the time it is written with unflinching honesty and emotion.
Here, creators = messengers
Here, readers = conduits
Here, we celebrate fleeting moments of connection between the two.
Here, we answer the famous question from T.S. Eliot's J. Alfred Prufrock
"Do I dare
Disturb the universe?"
with a resounding, "Yes!"
